Welcome to a new series we're calling Social Saturdays, where each week we'll feature a game that has some kind of social aspect to it, whether it's something that can be played between friends on Facebook, a social network, or even a casual MMO (massively-multiplayer online) game. This week's game is a Facebook application from our friends at Large Animal Games called Bumper Stars.

You don't need a Facebook account to play the basic version here, where the goal is to launch your roly poly avatar around the screen, strategically bouncing off walls and bumpers and collecting fruit to move to the next level. You earn credits for playing that can be used to buy new characters, including Puffy the Cat, Thumper (a rotund bunny), Katana Boy the ninja, Poindexter the nerd, and my personal favorite, El Grande the lucha libre wrestler.

If you're a Facebook user, you can get your friends involved too. Invite people on your friendslist to play and their faces will appear as bumpers in the game. You'll be able to add your high scores to a list and see how you rank against friends - and the best part: you can send them a message through Facebook to gloat each time you pass their high score.
